MINERVA PUNJAB FC have signed their head coach for their debut season in the I-League, and it's someone who has spent a substantial amount of time coaching in India.
Spanish coach Carlos Jose Hevia, who comes with more than 2 decades of experience coaching at various levels, has worked with a prominent Indian team before. Until recently he was the Technical Director and Head of Grassroot Development at ISL franchise FC Pune City.
The UEFA Pro License holding coach was always hands-on with his duties at Pune City, and helped build what is arguably the best grassroot development programme among all ISL franchises.
And it makes sense for him to be at Minerva Punjab FC. The club has taken its time to put an elaborate youth development programme in place, and has the largest residential football academy in India. They have entered the Indian football circuit with a long term vision where the first team is closely linked with the youth and academy squads. It's the same kind of strong structure that Carlos has repeatedly spoken out in favour of during his time in India.
While his appointment comes only days before the league starts, his role at the club is likely to be a long term one and his responsibilities spanning beyond just the first team and this season.
