GRAND SNUB: Keen to keep Lee out of Olys, Rohan choses Myneni, say reports
DOUBLES PLAYER ROHAN BOPANNA has finally made the big announcement that everybody was waiting for and No, he did not pick Leander Paes who a few days back said that he was keen to play alongside Bopanna.
Instead, according to reports, Bopanna has chosen Saketh Myneni who is ranked lower to the veteran who recently completed a Career Slam in the mixed doubles at the French Open.
In a statement released to the media, the Bengaluru based tennis player said,
"A direct acceptance provides me the right to nominate my men's doubles partner, an opportunity for me to exercise my judgement as to the best possible partner for me. I have, earlier today, communicated my decision to the AITA."
Bopanna after being ranked in the top 10 had a right to choose his doubles partner. But the final decision for the same will be made by the selection committee of All India Tennis Association (AITA) on 11th June 2016 confirms Mr. Hironmoy Chatterjee (CEO) to NDTV.com
He also stated that there will be no repeat of what happened in 2012 where Bopanna teamed with Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander was left with no choice but to play with Vishnu Vardhan. Amidst all of this, tennis suffered.
"We hope there will be no repeat of what happened in 2012. The selection committee's decision will be final and of course, Bopanna can certainly voice his preference," Chatterjee said.
The full squad for tennis will be announced on Saturday. Bopanna will also been seen in the mixed doubles category playing with Sania Mirza.
