Following all the drama involving Jon Jones and his legal troubles, reports now emerge that his highly anticipated bout against UFC Light Heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier wouldn't be happening after all. And the embattled former champion isn't even the reason for it.
Sources close to Cormier's gym AKA (American Kickboxing Academy)confirm a foot injury sustained by the champion to be the reason why 'DC' is unfit to defend his title against arch-nemesis Jon Jones. The story first broke on BJPenn.com.
With this development, it remains to be seen if, in the absence of Cormier, Jones remains on the card or chooses to fight Cormier at a later time. The co-main event on that card is a UFC Flyweight title match between Demetrious Johnson and Henry Cejudo, which could get promoted to the main-event if UFC doesn't find a replacement for Cormier.
The obvious name as a replacement for 'DC' would be Anthony 'Rumble' Johnson, who reportedly is in fighting shape ready to fill in if in case of any eventuality.
Both the UFC and Daniel Cormier are yet to officially confirm the news as of this article being published.
