Jon Jones arrested for violating probation: Detained in Albuquerque

Jon Jones is scheduled to have a main event match at UFC 197

Following Jon Jones' admission to being given five traffic tickets last week, the former Light Heavyweight champion was arrested and detained in a country jail in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Tuesday night. This was after he was issued a arrest warrant and Jones turned himself into the authorities as the incident with the traffic authorities resulted in a violation of his current probation, resulting from a Hit-and-Run case last year.

As Jones stated on Ariel Helwani's MMA Hour, he was stopped and pulled over by the cop and ticketed for, among other things, drag racing. The former champ denied all the charges and during the conversation, lost his cool and called the officer of the law a 'f**king liar' and a 'pig'. He did apologise for the same, but it doesn't seem like it mattered.

Jones, who has been embroiled in a few vehicular run-ins with the law, is expected to face Daniel Cormier to regain his UFC Light Heavyweight championship that was stripped following his involvement in the hit-and-run case last year. While his legal team are confident that this particular incident would have no effect on his upcoming fight, the UFC issued the following statement in relation to the same:

UFC is aware that Jon Jones turned himself into the Albuquerque Police Department this morning for a potential probation violation stemming from a traffic stop last week. UFC has been in touch with Jones' legal team and will have no further comment until the organization has had appropriate time to gather necessary information.

It remains to be seen as to what course does this latest transgression of Jon Jones with the law leads him to, however here's hoping that we get to see the rematch everyone is waiting on, for the UFC Light Heavyweight championship.
