Sania/Martina go down in R2, crash out of the Indian Wells Masters
IT’S BEEN A YEAR exactly since the dream pairing of Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza teamed up together in Indian Wells.
Unfortunately, the defending champions succumbed to a shocking defeat at the hands of American-Russian duo of Vania King and Alla Kudryavtseva in the second round 7-6(7), 6-4. The Indo-Swiss pair was shown the door in an hour and 32 minutes.
After the duo’s unbeaten streak of 41 matches came to an end in the quarters at the Qatar Open, Martina/Sania have not been able to gather a momentum they enjoyed for almost a year.
This was the pairs first straight sets loss since the summer of 2015. The world’s best women’s pairing will now have their sights set on the WTA Miami Open in a week’s time.
