CHENNAIYIN FC is delighted to announce the signing of Brazilian central defender Eder Monteiro Fernandes for the second season of the Hero Indian Super League.
Eder, who will turn 32 in September, was last playing for Nea Salamis Famagusta in the topmost league of Cyprus. He spent two seasons with the Cypriot outfit.
The Brazilian has spent the majority of his career in his home country with the most notable stint at giants Vasco Da Gama, where he made 79 appearances between 2005 and 2007.
Eder’s first move abroad came in in 2010 when he joined Portuguese top tier outfit Rio Ave FC, where he spent two seasons. After that he signed for Greece Super League club PAE Kerkyra, staying one season there before joining Nea Salamis Famagusta.
Chennaiyin FC manager Marco Materazzi said, “We are very happy to have signed Eder. He has immense experience having played in various leagues of Europe and currently is at an age where centre backs peak and thus will add plenty of quality and solidarity to our backline. Eder will also be a good guide for the Indian players and I have full faith in him to have a fantastic ISL.”
Eder said, “I am delighted to have joined Chennaiyin FC. There was a buzz about the Indian Super League globally last year so I am really looking forward to be a part of it this time. Chennaiyin already have some top players like Elano and Mendy and it will also be great to be working with the Indian players of the team. I will bring my experience of playing in other leagues of Europe but would also get to learn a lot by playing under the legendary Marco Materazzi. Last year Chennaiyin were one of the most consistent teams of the league and this time I will do everything to make them champions.”
