Durand Cup 2023 HIGHLIGHTS: NorthEast United edge Indian Army in quarter finals
INDIAN ARMY GAVE NorthEast United a tough fight in the first quarter final match of Durand Cup 2023.
NEUFC were taken aback by the fitness-fuelled pressure game that the amateur-level team put on in the first half, holding them to a goalless stalemate till the break.
For the Highlanders, the break-through came early in the second half when Manvir took advantage of a slight positioning error from IAFT defenders to get past their defence line and send a low header to the goalmouth. Phalguni Singh, flanked by two opponent players, managed to slam it into the net.
The goal proved to be the deciding factor in the game because IAFT didn't give them another chance to score. The game stayed competitive till the end. In the end, though NEUFC progressed to the semis, the performance didn't leave them with a lot of optimism about their chances for winning the tournament.
