CFL 2023: East Bengal rise to the top of Group B with back to back wins
EAST BENGAL ARE back in roaring form in the Calcutta Football League.
The EB development team, after a struggling start, are now top of the table in the CFL Group B, thanks to back to back victories.
Today, the Red and Golds took on Kidderpore SC and beat them soundly by a 2-0 margin. The East Bengal defence looked better than before; and despite Kidderpore playing a smart and effecive game in their rear for most of the match, the breakthroughs came nonetheless.
The first goal, which came just after the half hour mark, showcased the brilliant individual skills that Tuhin Das possesses. Getting hold of the ball near midfield, he raided the Kidderpore box by himself, leaving multiple defenders beaten by his dribbles. He finished the job with calmness, getting EB the much-needed lead.
And towards the end of the match, East Bengal doubled their lead courtesy Shyamal Besra's left footed finish taking the Kidderpore keeper by surprise.
East Bengal now have 7 points from 3 matches; the same as George Telegraph but the ISL club holds the superior goal difference, resulting in their ascent to first place in the group.
