EAST BENGAL HAVE claimed their first win in CFL 2023, beating West Bengal Police by a 4-2 margin.
The developmental team of the ISL club was held to a draw by Rainbow AC in their campaign opener. However, WB Police were not able to put up that kind of resistance today.
In fact it was an own goal by WBP's Tapendu Ghosh that gave EB their first lead. Soon afterwards, Sarthak Golui doubled their lead.
However, WBP were able to fight back into the game. Just after the half hour mark, Subrata Biswas scored their first goal and soon after half-time Rajib Dutta found the equalizer.
With their lead gone and their defence being shown to be less than adequate, East Bengal were under pressure. But this is where the Red & Gold youngsters found their moment to shine. Within a 5 minute period, Dip Saha and Avishek Kunjum scored for EB, securing a margin of 4-2 that proved to be unassailable for WBP this time.
With this win, EB have broken back into the race for top three spots in Group B; which will take them to the championship round.
