FORMER INDIA CAPTAIN turned senior cricket administrator Sourav Ganguly has turned 51 today, and good wishes poured in from around the world for the legendary figure in Indian cricket.
Sourav's role in the Indian team is considered transformative. Under him the Men in Blue dropped the polite, non-aggressive manners they had come to be known for and became an aggressive contender in the international stage.
Ganguly, who recently served as the BCCI President, celebrated his birthday at home with his family. But his fans, former colleagues and cricket enthusiasts filled up social media all day with messages for him.
Some of the IPL teams also wished Ganguly, one of the original stars in the history of IPL, in their own unique ways.
Gujarat Titans, for example, shared some images from Ganguly's playing days as well as his time as a coach in the Delhi Capitals team, wishing happy birthday to everyone's beloved 'Dada.'
Delhi Capitals, who are the team Ganguly has most recently worn the badge of, shared a video of their favourite memories of Dada at DC.
Chennai Super Kings, meanwhile, listed Ganguly's major achievements in cricket, adding "Sourav Ganguly is all of us."
And Kolkata Knight Riders, who have the honour of having Sourav Ganguly as their very first captain, referred to his popular nickname 'Maharaja' in an artistic depiction of him in a king's garb. KKR accompanied this quoting a song lyric from Satyajit Ray's iconic movie 'Hirok Rajar Deshe'... 'Maharaja, tomare selam." (O King, we salute you)
