FIFA World Cup 2022 HIGHLIGHTS: France beat Australia in 4-1 romp
FRANCE OVERCAME some early defensive woes to march to a dominant 4-1 victory over Australia in their FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign opener match.
Craig Goodwin, just 9 minutes into the match, put Australia ahead and for a moment it seemed the fans may be in for another major upset just hours after Saudi Arabia's historic win against Argentina.
But France, without missing a beat, went all out on the attack to get back in the game and Australia were reduced to constantly defending with 10 or even 11 players. But chances kept coming France's way and just before the half hour mark Adrien Rabiot found the net.
Soon, order was restored in the football world as Olivier Giroud got France the lead, courtesy a peach of an assist from Rabiot. Then, in the second half, he got a second goal, and Kylian Mbappe got one for himself, giving France a comfortable 4-1 lead that was enough for them to see through till the end without a hitch.
France will play their second match on Saturday against Denmark, who are coming off a draw with Tunisia. Australia, on the same day, will face off with Tunisia, which reprsents their best chance to get a point in their FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign.
