Aizawl FC, Electric Veng pick up crucial wins in Mizoram Premier League
AIZAWL FC CAME BACK from a deficit to claim victory against Ramhlun North FC at the Mizoram Premier League on Friday.
Coming in unbeaten and on top of the league table, the People's Club started well and created a number of chances but poor finishing kept the scoreline even until a defensive mistake allowed Ramhlun North to get the lead half an hour into the game. A brilliant shot from Jongte Lalpekhlua left the AFC keeper rooted to the ground as it soared into the net.
In the second half, however, Aizawl FC came out swinging. Not long after the match had resumed Lalremsanga managed to get a goal and put Aizawl FC on even terms with their opponents. At the 80 minute mark, Rocharzela who had been having an impactful game finaly got his name on the scoresheet, and in added time Joe Zoherliana made it 3-1 in favour of the former I-League champions.
In the second match of the day, another high profile encounter saw Chanmari FC went down to Independence Day Cup winners Electric Veng FC with Lalrammawia scoring just 10 minutes into the match, which was the only goal of the game.
After Thursday's matches had to be postponed due to bad weather, the return to action in MPL was a sigh of releaf for the organizers. The cancelled matches have been rescheduled for Saturday.
With this win Electric Veng FC have climbed to the 2nd place in the league table, with 14 points from 7 matches. Aizawl FC have retained their top spot with 15 points from 7 games. Chhinga Veng FC are on 12 points from 7 games so with a win they can move up to second; while Chanmari FC are stuck in 4th place with their loss to Electric Veng FC; with 11 points from 7 games.
Chanmari are now in danger of being usurped by Mizoram Police, who have 9 points from 6 games.
