Arjan Singh Bhullar's ONE Championship debut cancelled as opponent takes ill
THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED MMA BOUT between Arjan Singh Bhullar and Mauro Cerilli at ONE: Dawn of Heroes has been cancelled.
The Indian-Canadian heavyweight Bhullar (9-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) was scheduled to make his debut at ONE, facing former Cage Warriors heavyweight champion Mauro Cerilli (13-3 MMA, 1-1 ONE). But Cerilli came down with a staph infection that pulled him out of the fight at the last moment.
There wasn't enough time left for ONE to arrange a replacement for Bhullar to fight. As a result, the bout had to be cancelled.
Bhullar, who had a reasonably successful run in the Ultimate Fighting Championship over the last couple of years, had prepared hard for his ONE debut. Beating an opponent of Cerilli's calibre would have immediately put him on a fast track to a title shot.
The former Commonwealth Games gold medal winning wrestler addressed the cancellation of his bout on social media, saying he was disappointed but he was excited to make his debut "in the near future."
