AIZAWL FC HAVE ANNOUNCED Santosh Kashyap as their new head coach after parting ways with Paulo Menezes, and the newly appointed gaffer is wasting no time in taking charge.
Speaking to TFG from Mumbai, Mr Kashyap said,
"I will reach Goa tomorrow and join the team, we will take it from there."
The veteran gaffer who has coached clubs like Air India, Mohun Bagan, ONGC, Rangdajied United, Royal Wahingdoh, Salgaocar FC and Mumbai FC in the past said he was excited to begin at his new job; his third stint as a top division coach in a club from North-East India,
"It's a great honour and pleasure to be the head coach of Aizawl FC. The club is at a very crucial juncture and it's a privilege to be in this position."
Asked how he would approach the rest of the season, Kashyap said,
"We have multiple competitions to participate in; there's AFC Cup and possibly Super Cup but we'll focus on just I-League first."
The coach, however, declined to set a concrete target in terms of how high he wanted to finish. Asked if Aizawl FC could still make top four, he said,
"We just need to take every game as it comes and focus on producing results... let's hope for the best."
Aizawl FC last won a match on 13th January when they beat Chennai City. Since then they have gone 6 I-League matches without a win. The club management's decision to replace Paulo Menezes apparently intends to get the team out of that rut.
Mr Kashyap will hope to replicate the success he found at ONGC and Royal Wahingdoh as head coach, and move past his previous stint with Mumbai FC which ended on a bitter note with the club under-performing and ending up relegated from the top division.
