IPL 2018: Mumbai Indians appoint Lasith Malinga as bowling mentor
DEFENDING CHAMPIONS Mumbai Indians have named Sri Lanka veteran paceman Lasith Malinga as their bowling mentor for the upcoming season.
Malinga, who was a part of the Mumbai-based franchise, will join the support staff headed by his former captain Mahela Jayawardene which also includes bowling coach Shane Bond, batting coach Robin Singh and newly appointed fielding coach James Pamment. In a statement released by MI, Malinga said,
"It's a great opportunity to be present with, and an honour to continue my association with Mumbai Indians. Mumbai has been my home away from home for the last decade. As a player, I have enjoyed the journey with Mumbai Indians and now as mentor, I look forward to the new chapter."
The 34-year-old, who had set is base price at INR 1 crore, had gone unsold at IPL auctions last month. Considering his lofty standards, he had had a subdued show last season, picking 11 wickets from 12 games at an economy rate of 8.52.
