It is indeed surprising that franchises were ready to pay so much for a fast bowler: Jaydev Unadkat

JAYDEV UNADKAT was the highlight of the day 2 of the IPL 2018 Players’ Auction as Rajasthan Royals broke the bank to acquire the services of the Saurashtra paceman. With that bid, Unadkat surpassed the price tag fetched by KL Rahul and Manish Pandey the previous day, thus becoming the costliest Indian player at the auction.

The 26-year-old, who was training with his Saurashtra teammates in Rajkot at the time of the players’ auction, asked team physio to keep him updated if his name appeared at the event. As reported by PTI, he expressed,

"After the physio told me that my bidding is on, I was hooked onto the live streaming for the next 15 minutes and found it surreal. The entire team stopped it's training to watch my bidding.”

The left-arm seamer has featured in a Test, seven ODIs and four T20Is said that he was surprised to see franchises willing to splurge on fast-bowlers.

"Honestly, I did not have any amount in mind. The past two years have been pretty good for me and after last year's IPL (24 wickets), I expected a good bid. But yes, I was really amazed at the kind of bidding that happened. It is indeed surprising for me that franchises were ready to pay so much for a fast bowler."

Aware of the expectations of the fans and the franchise, Unadkat added that he will aim to deliver his best in the upcoming season.

"I am overwhelmed but taking it in a happy way. I am expected to give my best for my franchise and will strive to do that."
