I would urge youngsters to take up longer version of the game: Kohli

INDIA SKIPPER Virat Kohli believes that Test needs to the premier format if cricket has to survive globally.

The prolific batsman reiterated his support for the longest format while speaking at the DDCA’s first annual conclave. The Delhi-lad urged young aspirants to take up the five-day format of the game.

“I believe Test cricket is paramount for the game to sustain globally. I would urge youngsters to take up longer version of the game.”

The event was held to inaugurate the stands named after Bishan Singh Bedi and Mohinder Amarnath. Kohli recalled his childhood days as U-14 and U-16 cricketer and when Bedi was his coach.

“I remember when I played U-14 and U-16s for Delhi, Bedi sir would make us train too much. Now that’s become a part of my life. It’s a huge honour to stand with all Delhi captains. I myself have been a Delhi captain.”

On the other hand, Bedi stated that he has never met a cricketer who is more intense than Kohli.

“I may not agree with some of his gestures on field but I have not seen someone more intense than Virat on field. I have never seen an Indian more intense than Virat. He will mellow down for sure but how much I have learnt watching Virat is unreal.”
