Japan SS: Pranaav/Sikki goes down fighting in SF; Indian participation comes to an end
MIXED DOUBLES duo of Pranaav Jerry Chopra/Sikki Reddy's winning run was brought to end by Japanese pair Takuro Hoki/Sayaka Hirota 21-14, 15-21, 19-21 in the semi-finals of Japan Super Series.
It was the Indian pair's maiden semi-final appearance at a SS event. They fought hard but it wasn't enough. Winning the opening game put them in a comfortable position but the Japanese snatches away the second to push the match into a decider.
The final was a closely contested game, but post interval the Japanese duo ran away with a series of points which left Pranaav/Sikki far behind and a mountain to climb. They tried to get close and level the scores but it was too late as the Japanese were just a point away from the win and a spot in the finals which they eventually claimed.
It definitely is disappointing for the Indian pair to come so close and get crushed but this shows a strong and better beginning from here on at top level tournaments.
